Is it time to realign or reset my goals?

We are halfway through the year, my second favourite time of year to review my progress and realign my goals where needed.

My first favourite time is the beginning of a new year, when I sit down and review the previous year and set plans for the coming one.

Now, in July, I love to review how I am getting along.

Sometimes this can be difficult, especially when I haven’t moved as far forward with some plans as I would have liked. So I stop and ask myself why!

What stopped me from taking action?

There are a number of reasons, so I like to get clear on them.

Is it because –

  • The goal is no longer relevant, maybe something has changed, or something else I did take its place.

  • The timing was not right when I planned, and now I am waiting for something that is a prerequisite for that action.

  • There is something else stopping me from getting started, a fear or limited belief about why or how I can take action.

The first two are easy to deal with, either remove it or reschedule the action.

The last one is a bit more difficult. First, it’s difficult to be honest about that being the reason; it takes a lot of soul searching and honest reflection to accept that my own inability to achieve something is of my own making. And then I have to figure out how to deal the root cause of the problem. Where did that belief or feeling come from, and how can I stop it from holding me back?

We all carry around baggage, for some of us, it’s more obvious than others. And some of us feel it is just part of who we are, a fait-du-complete. I, on the other hand, learnt from my journey with NLP that not only can we release that baggage, but we can also make the decision to change those limited beliefs into something that can drive us forward and change the trajectory of our future. Allowing us to take control back from our own internal dialogue that sometimes feels like it’s in charge.

Have you ever said to yourself, “I’m just not the kind of person who can… (fill in the blank)” or “I’d love to be able to… (fill in the blank)”? I know now that that voice is making that decision for me, and when that voice no longer serves me, or it is holding me back from something, I can choose to override it. And it’s so cool! So freeing. And still not easy.

This is an ongoing practice, one I will, no doubt, continue to work on my entire life. And the best part - I get to share this practice with others. The tools are out there, and once you know them, you can’t un-know them. It’s a huge deal, one that has changed my life.

So now, as we step into the final 6 months of the year, I will book time for myself to release my limited beliefs, realign my goals, and set myself up for success for the rest of 2025.

How about you?

Having flunked out of school at 17, she spent the next 30 (cough) years trying to figure out why learning stuff is so hard. She made it her mission to help others believe in their abilities and achieve more than they thought possible. Now through her coaching and business focused training she helps others to experience the "light bulb moment" and strive to greatness.
Her heroes are Sir Richard Branson and Brené Brown for their inspiration, and her Husband, whom without she would never have been able to live a life full of her own "light bulb moments".
