"Part of me is afraid"

... PING!

How was your month? How many Lightbulb Moments did you get to experience? I'd like to share my biggest one with you.

I heard the phrase "Part of me is afraid" this month and it really did set off a lightbulb in my head. How powerful is it that you can decide that only part of you is afraid and that the other part of you isn't? That means you can choose to work with the part that isn't afraid and take action.

Last year I embarked on a journey with the Empowerment Partnership and my continued development of NLP. The trigger for me was when I got up on stage and agreed to have my lifelong fear of Spiders dealt with. Now I was really afraid of spiders, it was a totally irrational fear. My whole flight or fight response would kick in. I almost jumped out of a moving car because there was a spider in it, thankfully my Husband managed to pull over just in time. It had never really occurred to me that my fear was only just a part of me and not the whole of me.

I have always believed in choice, and now I believe I have a choice to be afraid or not, it's quite liberating. Some fear is good, it keeps us safe from doing those really stupid things that could cause actual physical harm, and some fear is there to test us. Do we really have what it takes to have and be, what we are meant to.

I wonder how many times you agreed to do something and then thought "what was I thinking?" Did you see it through? I bet if you did, you were glad you took action. If you didn't, do you now feel regret?

I'm pretty sure I have let Fear get the better of me many, many times. The people I have most admiration for are those who seem to be able to just get on and do stuff, with seemly no trepidation. Sometimes people ask me how I can stand up in front of a room and present or run training programs. Public speaking being right up there with Death on the fear factor. I guess I must just choose not to let it frighten me. I know I do feel a bit scared just before I kick off, and I see that as normal, after 25 years I guess you get used to it.

What do you do that most people fear doing? When do you make choices to feel the fear and do it anyway? How can you use that choice at other times to deal with the other terrifying actions you know you need to take in order to move forward?

Remember, only part of you is afraid, by tapping into the part that isn't, you can do it.

Thanks for reading, I hope this has given you some things to think about and you have some of your own Lightbulb Moments.

I'd love to hear about them.

If you would like some help experiencing them, I'd love to help.

Please share this with anyone you know who loves experiencing Lightbulb Moments.

Enjoy the Ping!
